ARCH 424: Field Studies in Architecture

One of the classes we are currently taking called Field Studies in Architecture. It is basically the same thing as the other field studies courses, however we look at built architecture rather than landscape. Our first assignment was to document and discuss what we liked about the Mercat de Santa Caterina, one of the oldest markets in Barcelona. It was originally built in 1848, and has recently undergone a renovation designed by Benedetta Tagliabue. The idea was to create a giant roof structure that hovers over the original form. Here was my analysis:
